Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience?
No experience is needed, unless you attend an “advanced training”. Our POND college courses are designed for complete beginners as well as gardeners, landscapers, and pond enthusiasts looking to improve their skills. We guide you step-by-step through the process.
What should I bring?
Please wear practical outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty. We also recommend bringing:
- Waterproofs (just in case). Although most of the course takes place outdoors, we can move under cover or use gazebos if needed. Pond building is a hands-on outdoor activity, so a little British weather won’t stop us.
- Work gloves if you prefer your own
- A notebook or phone for photos and notes
- Your own lunch
Tea, coffee, and morning refreshments are provided.
Is the course outdoors?
Yes — this is real hands-on pond building in an outdoor environment in the POND college areas of the Pond Advisor HQ in the Northamptonshire countryside. You’ll be working on practical builds, not sitting in a classroom all day.
Are tools provided?
Yes. Tools and materials are provided during the workshop, although you’re welcome to bring your own gloves or favourite hand tools if preferred. Lots of people bring gloves or their favourite hand tools, whatever you prefer.
What happens if it rains?
The course still goes ahead in most weather conditions — after all, pond building doesn’t stop for a bit of British weather. Because the course takes place outdoors, we recommend bringing waterproofs. In cases of extreme weather, we will contact attendees directly.
Can I attend alone?
Absolutely. Many people attend on their own, and we have private dates if you prefer. The workshops are designed to be friendly and welcoming. It’s a great way to meet other people interested in ponds, water gardening, and landscaping.
Is parking available?
Yes, free on-site parking is available at The Pond Advisor HQ.
Are refreshments included?
Yes. Morning refreshments are included from 9:00 AM onwards. Please bring your own lunch for the day.
